Customers or visitors? All About Conversions

July 9th, 2009 Patricia Green

Isnt it frustrating to see that the large amount of visitors doesnt result in sales improvement? What is the secret of turning a visitor into paying customer? Well, if you are looking for the answer, here are some proven conversions principles for you to discover.

The first is making sure that people are getting what they expect from visiting your site. Ask yourself this: how specific is my offer in relation to the advertisements which are generating my traffic? The most important thing to focus on here is being specific.

For instance, your website may be about studying Chinese in China, and yet your ads are for studying Chinese. This is definitely a wrong approach, because your site will be visited by those who would like to study Chinese by themselves, or looking for some language schools in their area. By narrowing down your traffic you will be getting more targeted visitors, those who will more likely convert.

The next principle is to facilitate a process for your visitors. Dont offer them to leave a comment, sign up for your newsletter and take a survey at the same time, they will end up doing nothing of these. Make it a step by step process instead.

People dont like to feel the pressure of too many offers, this is why the best solution is to divide the process into steps and lead a person from giving them something free to buying something from you.

The third thing to pay attention to is to inform your customers what value they are going to get when buying your product. People are expecting to get some benefit from the product, otherwise they wont buy it.

When it comes to that, you have to be very clear about what people are going to get from giving you their information or purchasing your product. Simply telling them about your offer is not enough, instead sell them on the benefit.

Finally, make sure you build relationships with your clients. Marketing is all about relationships and trust. If you dont expect a sale right away, if you care about people and show it to them, you will sooner or later be rewarded for your work and patience by your growing number of loyal customers, conversions and profits.
