Strategies For Maintaining Low Insurance Premiums

August 7th, 2009 Graham McKenzie Comments off

Not all people know that their insurance premiums are partly determined by their insurance history. The lack of a current insurance policy or a substantial history of insurance can result in a higher premium when soliciting new coverage. Conversely, continuous coverage can result in receiving lower quotes from other insurance companies when you decide to get more quotes versus just renewing your old policy.

Many will argue that the lack of insurance history should not increase one’s premiums. Regardless, among the many considerations in determining premiums are an applicant’s demonstrated ability to maintain their payment schedule, their proclivity for making claims on their past policies, and their demonstrated clean driving record. A failing in any of these areas will have the effect of markedly increasing your premiums to a much higher rate than you would prefer.

Persons having previous lapsed policies, and are in need to find a new one with better quotes are generally not entertained. Even if it happens, the credit history is checked for timely payment of premiums for the previous policy, so that the new company has some points for consideration.

If you are a new driver, if you have a string of traffic tickets, if you have had traffic accidents, if you have submitted _insurance claims_ for accidents, if you’ve let policies lapse due to non-payment… any (or, you poor sap, _all_) of these things make you a high-risk customer. You can still find insurance, but you will definitely pay a price. You’ll have a higher down payment, higher premiums, a higher deductible, and generally less coverage.

So once you have started a policy, be sure to complete it. If you want to establish yourself as a desirable customer, purchase a policy for six months. Drive carefully, _don’t_ get any tickets, and make your payments regularly and promptly. When it’s time to renew, get out the phone book and start checking other brokers. Now that you have a good insurance history, other insurers will be eager for your business. Your original insurer will be reluctant to lose you, and will most likely match any quote you get from another company. Your next six months could end up costing you hundreds of dollars less than your first.

Those drivers who maintain coverage for several years through the same company may not be taking advantage of potential savings that are available to them. Insurance companies are not in the habit of pro-actively offering existing customers lower rates, even if they may qualify for them. On the other hand, competing insurance companies are more likely to offer a potential customer with a strong history better rates in the hopes of getting them to switch providers.

Be street smart. Make sure you go around and hunt to get the best quotes from the Insurance companies which are ready to offer you their services before selecting your Insurance policies. Think twice before getting committed to a policy. A little amount of good behavior such as not allowing the policy to lapse, clean driving record or prompt payment of premiums on time can reward you with higher rates and get a better deal the next time you start hunting for the best cover.

Trading Forex Using Price Action ” The Engulfing Patterns

August 6th, 2009 Tim Barnby Comments off

Few things are more satisfying to me that bare chart trading. Ive seen traders with so many indicators on their screen that I could not even see the price of the currency pair. What do any of these indicators tell you anyway? Do I need a MACD or a CCI? I can see which direction the trend is moving without them. How about a stochastic? I can see where candles are closing relative to the high or low. Other than some horizontal lines at key support and resistance levels, some Fibonacci retracements, and trend lines I often have nothing on my charts at all. All of these are topics for future articles.

A bullish engulfing pattern is characterized by having a real body which completely engulfs the real body of the preceding candle. A simpler way of describing this is that the bullish engulfing candle has a higher open and a lower close than the preceding candle. A bearish engulfing candle has a lower open and a higher close than the bar immediately preceding it.

The bullish and bearish engulfing patterns are powerful indicators of a trend reversal. Engulfing patterns must appear after a significant run up or down in price to be considered valid. When the engulfing pattern presents itself at a probable price reversal zone, or a confluence of support or resistance it is even more reliable. My experience has shown these patterns to be over 75% reliable, and normally offer at least a two to one reward to risk ratio when traded on the one hour or four hour charts. They are even more reliable on the daily and weekly charts.

There are a couple of valid methods for trading engulfing patterns. The first is pretty basic. You place a market order at the close of the candle. Your stop loss order goes a few pips past the opposite side of the engulfing candle, and the target goes somewhere at least twice the distance of the stop loss. Using this method, if the engulfing candle has a 50 pip range, your stop loss would be about 55 pips and your target would be about 110 pips away from your entry. The more advanced method involves pulling a Fibonacci retracement tool on the engulfing candle. Place your entry order at the 38.2%, 50% or 61.8% Fibonacci level of the candle, and place the stop loss in the same position as the first method. This method gives you a smaller stop loss, which offers you a much high per pip value, and a bigger target. It has a lower rate of successful fills, so youll have fewer trades using this entry method.

No matter what your method of entry is, you will profit from trading these powerful reversal indicators. Youll also save yourself the stress of conflicting technical indicators and cluttered screens. Trade this pattern for a week and see if I am wrong.

Money Management Principles in Forex Trading (Part III)

August 6th, 2009 Ahmad Hassam Comments off

Live to trade another day is perhaps the best advice that you will receive in your trading career. Forex markets are brutal and unforgiving. You need to learn to survive in the markets.

The single most common factor that causes many currency traders to blow up their accounts and lose all their money is greed. You start taking unnecessary risks when you get greedy. You will spend many hours trying to find the Holy Grail technical indictor or a forex robot that can make you rich. You will believe that by discovering that secret, you will become rich.

Unfortunately there is no Holy Grail for anyone in trading. You will win and you will lose. So you must learn not to risk more than 2% of your account on one trade. Grow your account incrementally over time. Never ever be tempted to risk big making one single winning trade that can make you rich.

You should know how much you are willing to risk in a single trade. I said 2%. But if you want to be aggressive you can go up to 5% but stay between 2-5%. Dont exceed it. If you are conservative, on the other hand, you should consider risking between 1-2% only.

Once you have decided on the amount of risk you are willing to take, the rest is simple. Suppose you have a $50,000 account. You decide on a risk of 2% only. How much you can risk on a single trade? (50,000)(0.02)=$1,000. This is the maximum amount you should risk on a single trade.

However, if you are trading more than one position at the same time, the amount may become higher. Lets suppose, you are in 3 trades! You risk only $1,000 per trade. So the total money at risk will be (3) (1000) =$3,000. When you have determined your risk, you are can determine the trade size.

Trade size is the number of contracts you purchase in any one trade. To determine the trade size, you need to first determine where you want to put your stop loss. Lets use an example to make it clear. Suppose you are willing to risk $1000 on trading EUR/USD pair. You decide on a stop loss of 50 pips. Each pip on EUR/USD pair is $10 worth. So the number of contracts that you need to trade are (1,000)/ (50) (10) =2.

Once you have determined your risk level and calculated the trade size, you have taken the guesswork out of your trading. Now, you can sleep well knowing how much of your amount is at risk and that you are going to be able to trade tomorrow, no matter what happens today.

Use these common money management rules and avoid the pitfall of losing almost all the money in your account. Learn to survive the markets and trade another day. This can help your trading take a quantum leap to the next level of profitability.

Investing in Land and Property in Brazil and how to Send Your Funds for the Purchase.

August 4th, 2009 Eduardo Collins Comments off

The Banco Central do Brasil is the Government body that oversees and regulates all international money transfers in and out of Brazil. The rules and legislation which must be followed with regard to international transfers are initially complex, but provide real security for investors and purchasers.

Whether you are buying land or property in Brazil, all of the money for the purchase must be sent from your own bank account directly to the sellers bank account.

Although technically you are sending directly to the sellers account, all international transfers are via the Banco Central do Brasil and the funds that you have sent will be held in a holding exchange account.

The seller must produce the sales contract that you have signed in order access the funds and exchange the money from the currency that you have sent to the Brazilian Real.

For this reason banks cannot at this time offer a firm exchange rate at the time of transfer as the exchange rate will only be confirmed when the seller presents the sales contract to their bank.

This means that in many cases there will be a shortfall or overpayment due to the exchange rate, and is the reason that most well drafted Brazilian purchase contracts allow a margin of +/-10% with regard to the amount sent.

This system managed by the Banco Central do Brasil ensures the registration of funds and proves your investment into the country. Most importantly it shows that the money was earned outside of Brazil and therefore is exempt from Brazilian income tax and just as importantly when you sell a property in Brazil and want to repatriate money, you can send back the original purchase amount free of any tax implication, capital gains tax may be payable on any profit made from the sale of a property.

Generally there are no restrictions repatriating your funds from Brazil as long as you have abided by Brazilian law and registered your funds as described above.

Although other sending options are available via companies such as Western Union, under Brazilian law these cannot exceed R$10,000 per transfer and of course will not result in registration of your funds with the Banco Central do Brasil.

On balance, transferring funds to Brazil is a straightforward process as long as you follow the procedures and regulations laid down by the Banco Central do Brasil. As these measures provide a central registration of your transfer and since the vendor must provide a valid sales contract in order to release the funds, the system provides excellent security for any funds you send for your Brazilian property purchase.

How To Pay Off Your Mortgage Faster

July 9th, 2009 Graham McKenzie Comments off

Mortgage loans are designed so that anyone can own a home. The common 30 year payoff is intimidating to most people. There are those that have figured out how to pay the mortgage off faster and shed 5,10 and even 15 years off the life of the loan.

Most people do not realize how easy it is to pay a mortgage off faster than the bank states. The first rule should be to have the best possible interest rate. If your credit score is better now than when you obtained the loan refinancing might be in order. The lower the interest rate the easier to pay the loan off quicker and you also save thousands in interest payments.

For those who want to benefit from early payoff but do not want to experience a squeeze on their budgets paying a bi-weekly payment instead of a monthly one will work. A bi-weekly payment plan actually pays two additional payments to the loan each year. This can greatly reduce the life of the loan. Since you have paid nothing more than you are used to the budget remains intact and you feel no ill effects of this method.

There are some who pay a large lump sum to the loan at the end of the year. The regular payments are made and then a portion is paid towards the principle. The lender may have limits as to how much can be paid without being penalized so you need to find that out before paying this way. This may be an impossible method for some but for those who do it they pay 15% of the loans balance towards the principle each year and have an extremely early payoff.

To be more realistic you can use the method of paying an additional amount each month instead of annually. This method allows you to pay on the principle each month and it is much more affordable for people to do this than the other method. The amount you decide on is up to you and what you can afford. The loans lifetime will shorten the more you pay each month.

If you are looking for a way to truly reduce the size of the loan and want to see more results than just a mere five years drop off you can combine methods. If you choose the bi-weekly payments then include an additional payment with each. A small amount will show you results so you do not have to go overboard here. The larger the amount the sooner the payoff obviously but even with a modest amount you will see a ten year difference in the lifetime of the loan. If you are lucky enough to have a lender who does not penalize for over payment then you can easily reduce your loan by 15 years or more with over payments. The weeks you have more you can send more and when you don?t have much just send a few dollars over.
